I really didn’t have too much of a plan for the week which I was perfectly okay with. This stop provided me with a few days to regroup as I had been pushing myself pretty hard recently.
It would’ve been nice to be able to explore downtown Portland a bit but after a couple days driving in Portland traffic, I wasn’t terribly disappointed I didn’t try harder to make an effort. Next time!
End of the Oregon Trail
After a couple relaxing days, I met up with a former Whitewater High School alum for a couple beers in Oregon City. Shout out to Mason Branstetter for making the effort to meet up with me. Very cool!
It also just so happened that I was right down the street from the official end of The Oregon Trail. It’s funny that I mentioned the Oregon Trail in an earlier post sort of off the cuff, only to wind up at the end of the actual Oregon Trail by happenstance.
Winery Event
There are several dozen wineries in the greater Portland area. Portland and the surrounding Willamette Valley are most well-known for their Pinot Noir. Tonight I tag along with my relatives and attend a fun live music event at the nearby Oak Knoll Winery.
Mt. Hood / Timberline Lodge
Timberline Lodge is a mountain lodge on the south side of Mount Hood about 60 miles east of Portland. Constructed from 1936 to 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, the Timberline Lodge was dedicated September 28, 1937, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It is also famous for being filmed as the exterior of the Overlook Hotel in the classic horror movie The Shining. I spend an hour or two milling around and trekking around the grounds.
