Coming from Canada I decided to chunk up my driving. I spent a night in Whitefish Montana, then drove the roughly 6 hours to Bozeman and spent a night there before heading to Yellowstone National Park.
I’m preparing to spend 6 days camping in Yellowstone. Unfortunately, it rained pretty hard most of the following day. So I decided to spend an additional night in Bozeman and wait out the rain. The forecast for the remainder of the week was looking pretty good. Sunny and mid 60s.
Okay, so make that 5 days of camping – let’s go!
I’m not even 5 miles into the park and I see a moose just hangin’ out as I drive through Mammoth Hot Springs. Very cool.
Self Guided Walk
I’m eager to get out and explore, so seeing an opportunity to stretch my legs was a welcome sight.
Lamar Valley
My first excursion is driving through the Lamar Valley. This is where a lot of the big game can usually be seen. Elk, bison, bears, wolves, pronghorn, and more.I drove the Lamar Valley on two different days in search of animals. Unfortunately I didn’t see any elk, bear, or wolves. Even still, it is a such a beautiful and expansive area to explore and take in.
Canyon Village
I chose to camp in Canyon Village. Not only is it centrally located within the park, but it is close to a number of hikes and also has showers. Not all campsites within Yellowstone have showers. I definitely didn’t want to have to drive 10 or 20 minutes every time I wanted to shower. I may be roughing it but I still like some creature comforts.I spent much of the rest of the day setting up camp, buying some food for the week at the village grocery store, getting my bearings in the village, and figuring out my game plan for the rest of the week. Looking forward to another day of exploring tomorrow.
