Air Quality Issues
Over 500 wildfires continue to burn throughout British Columbia alone. Air quality has deteriorated across much of Canada from Vancouver all the way East to the Canadian Rockies. I’m trying to make the best of it while I’m here but the fact of the matter is that most days you simply can’t see anything. It’s disappointing but out of my control.
Only 1 day during my entire week stay in Golden BC was visibility even remotely decent. I spent that afternoon hiking. You’ll notice many of the photos looked sort of hazy and washed out. Though visibility on this day was still a bit disappointing and clouded me from experiencing Yoho National Park to it’s fullest, it was certainly good enough for me to appreciate the beauty of this place.

Emerald Lake is the largest lake in Yoho National Park, and is fully enclosed by mountains, making for some pretty spectacular scenery.Natural Bridge

The Harsh Reality
I was fortunate to get even 1 day with somewhat decent visibility. Sadly, most days have looked more like this – or worse. As a result, I’ve decided to abandon my plans here and I will not be able to explore Jasper, Banff, Lake Louise, or the Icefields Parkway. It’s a real bummer. My next stop was to be Glacier National Park but they are dealing with similar wildfires and air quality issues. What to do!?…
After some more thought I’ve decided since I was preparing to take a week off work and camp, why not keep those plans but do it much further south and hopefully away from much of the weather and air quality issues. I’m heading to Yellowstone!
